三道五术 3 Values 5 Core Skills

The Nanyang Basketball Team believes in inculcating 3 Values and teaching 5 Core Skills (三道五术) to all our players.  

3 Values 三道


Be a good child.
Family comes first. Spend time with your parents and siblings. If there is an important family event, you should attend it with your family and enjoy their company. Your parents work hard to support you, you must appreciate your parents and your family.

Be a good student.
Do your best in your studies. Behave well in class and be resilient. In basketball, you shoot, you miss but you never stop shooting. In your studies, you may fail but you can keep trying. You must display a positive attitude in class and be on your best behaviour.

Be a good basketballer.
Learn the game well, play the game well. We shall aim to play the game with utmost sportsmanship. Be aggressive but not rough. We value fair play and we shall respect the game. 

5 Core Skills 五术


Stamina 体力
This is the basis for all good play. A good basketballer must develop his/her stamina in order to play the game. A fitter player makes better decisions and reacts fastest to the ball. In a match between 2 equally skilled teams, the fitter one usually prevails.

Movement 步法
The game of basketball occurs with 10 players and only 1 ball. For most of the game, a basketballer is not likely to handle the ball. He/She must learn how to move without the ball in order to be part of the game. When he/she has the ball, he/she must then know what to do with it and where to move. 

Ball Skills 球艺
Learning to handle to ball well. Holding, pivoting, passing, dribbling, shooting and lay-ups. 

Tactics 策略
The rules of Basketball and how to play as a team. Learning to create a strong defence and offence.

Fighting Spirit 斗志
The will to play well and win. Working as a team to overcome challenges. To fail yet to never stop trying. To win with humility and lose with grace.
