Suspension of CCA & Remedial for Friday 27 March 2015

Dear Parents,

We would like to inform every one of the suspension of ALL CCA and Remedial sessions this Friday 27 March 2015. The suspension of activities is to allow the pupils and staff to pay their tributes to former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew at Senja-Cashew Community Club.

For pupils who have their afternoon activities suspended and wish to take part in paying their respects to late Mr Lee Kuan Yew at the Senja-Cashew Community Club, the school will make the necessary transport arrangements to the venue and return to NYPS. Buses will depart NYPS at 2pm from the Meeting Point and return to NYPS by 4pm. For all other pupils not participating, they will return home at the normal school dismissal time of 1:30 pm.

If your child wishes to pay his/ her respects at Senja-Cashew Community Club, he/ she may collect a consent form from the General Office. Please acknowledge your approval and then return the form to Mr Eugene Ng via locker 81. If you should wish to attend the session with your child, you are strongly encouraged to meet us at Senja-Cashew Community Club directly. You can pick up your child directly from the venue upon dismissal.

You can also download and print the consent form (jpeg) below and submit it to Mr Eugene Ng via locker 81

We regret causing inconvenience to all, but would like to seek your understanding and appreciation for this very somber and important event. Thank you in advance for your kind support and patience.

Warmest Regards,

Mr Eugene Ng

Nanyang Basketball Daycamp 16th March 2015

The Nanyang Basketball Day Camp was held on Monday, 16th March 2015. It was organised with the help of the Falcons' Support Group (FSG) - the parent volunteers of Nanyang Basketball. We also had the opportunity to invite basketballers from the Singapore National Team to conduct a 2 hour clinic for us.

We started the day by registering all our eager participants. Our mummy volunteers were a great source of help!

A quick introduction to the Basketballers from the Singapore National Team. Nanyang Basketball aims to support them at the SEA Games in June! Go Singapore!

It is always vital to warm up and stretch before training. This will help prevent injuries.

Our young players are put through the paces in a drill to increase their footwork.

 Fundamentals of good shooting.

 Dribbling with the correct posture.

You want to be a good player? Then learn to shoot better!

Pounding the ball increases control and arm strength.

Aim and posture. Getting your body in the right stance before shooting.

 Movement without the ball.

 Quick feet! Quick feet!

 More movement fundamentals.

It isn't all drills. Some fun and games with the basketball.

Dribbling games for students to practice with fun.

Some words of wisdom to conclude the morning training.

Wong Wei Long, our national player, sharing about his experiences as a student. He shared about the obstacles he had to overcome and reminded our players not to give up even when the odds are against them.

Our Principal, Mrs Lee, dropped in to show her support as well.

When the training is over we put our hands in to give a big cheer!

 All together now...SMILE!
I say NANYANG...you say FALCONS!
NANYANG! FALCONS!

Sorting our players into groups. At camps we mix our players into all the groups with the expectation that everyone should make friends and care for each other. We are united by a passion for basketball.

It's time for an outdoor cooking experience! Mr Ng teaching the players how to cook their own lunch.

Hungry? Time to cook your own lunch! You can see the FSG parents in the background helping each group to get their fires going and helping to cook as well.

 I am the MASTERCHEF!

A feast of noodles, eggs, sausages and bak choy.

Our older kids are reminded to help the younger ones first. Always.

 Sharing a meal together.

A basketball movie screening of Space Jam after lunch.

Camp debrief and it's home sweet home. We couldn't do a basketball telematch as the skies had opened then.

Our heartfelt thanks to our FSG parents for helping with the registration, buying of food and supplies. They helped the players greatly during the cooking session, helping to start the fires and teaching them how to cook. Thank you parents!

Nanyang Falcons soar as West Zone Junior Boys' Champions!

The Nanyang Falcons emerged as Champions of the West Zone Junior Boys Division in a pulsating and thrilling final played against Chua Chu Kang Primary at the Jurong East Sports Hall on 5th March 2015.

It was a cagey and edgy affair up till the half-time break as both teams were unable to settle and in order to get their game going. Perhaps it was the pressure of playing in front of a boisterous crowd or the unfamiliar conditions of the indoor court; both teams were hampered by wayward passing and poor shot decisions. At the end of the half, Chua Chu Kang led by 16-15.

In the 3rd quarter our young Falcons managed to find their groove and began to overwhelm their opponents with a series of steals and quick counter attacks. We managed to build a lead and did not let up till the end. Chua Chu Kang put up a valiant fight and never made things comfortable for the Falcons. They were led by the outstanding form of their point guard (no.6) and a tall center (no.14) who made crucial baskets to keep the game close.

In the end however, the Falcons tenacity and overall play prevailed. We were able to overcome Chua Chu Kang with a score of 51-33.

The Nanyang Falcons posing with Mrs Lee after the match. Mrs Lee was on hand to give a rousing speech before the match. She stayed throughout to cheer the boys on. Thank you Mrs Lee!

Coach Ong and the Junior Falcons posing with their hard-earned trophies and the
Falcon mascot. Our Captain, Chong Weng Kee was nominated as Outstanding Player of the Team.
This is in recognition of his overall play in defence and offence.

The Falcons gave their all to get this far, with sweat, tears and blood shed on the courts through many hours of gruelling drills and training. As they lined up during the prize-giving ceremony, it was heart-warming to see the boys chatting with their peers from Lian Hua and Chua Chu Kang. The boys displayed the true meaning of sportsmanship; to face their opponents on the court and to embrace as friends when the game is over.

Behind every successful Falcon team is a dedicated group of parents who help to bring the boys for training, buy refreshments and give the loudest cheers. Thank you parents!

The Nanyang Falcon family, together as one.
We may be different, but we all bleed Nanyang blue.
